Metabolism

An exercise-inducible metabolite that suppresses feeding and obesity

N-lactoyl-phenylalanine (Lac-Phe) is the result of a condensation reaction between phenylalanine and lactate, catalyzed by cytosolic non-specific dipeptidase (CNDP2). Lac-Phe has been shown to inhibit appetite in a leptin independent fashion. Lac-Phe is significantly elevated following vigorous exercise in humans. Lac-Phe has poor GI stability limiting current PO formulations.
